4/83 The Old School House

GV II

A National School and schoolhouse, now in residential occupation. 1842,
extended 1872. Single storey, irregular form. Black knapped flint with red
brick dressings to older part. Street frontage has double Roman tiled roof,
with 2 gables. Below each gable, a canted bay window with a pitched roof of
fishscale tiles. Central gabled porch. The south side retains the schoolroom
windows: triple full-height small-paned sashes, and the school door. The
extension at the rear is in red brick, with 2 bands of blue headers across the
front. Plaintiled roof, and large-paned sash windows with cambered heads.
