No 34 and the Town Estate Room

No.34: House, C17 with probable late-medieval core. Town Estate Room: infant
school, c.1872, incorporating part of C17 building. No.34, 1½ storeys,
attics, 2 windows. Timber-framed rendered, thatched roof with eyebrow casement
dormers; axial stack with rebuilt saw-tooth pattern flue, dated 1872. C19 and
C20 casements: C20 entrance door. Town Estate Room, 1 storey, gable front.
Rendered walls, slated roof with carved small-pane wrought iron casements.
Flanking 1-storey entrance porch with carved barge boards pointed arched
opening with hood mould; recessed boarded entrance door with decorative strap-
hinges. C17 purlin roof over No.34 and part of Town Estate Room built of re-
used sooted rafters from an open hall; C17 house probably incorporates earlier
walling.
