5/48 The Dun Cow Public House

- II

Public House and dwelling. Early-to-mid C16 core, later extensions. 2
storeys: basic L-shaped plan, but now of complex form. The timber-framed and
plastered original range with internal chimney-stack and plaintiled roof,has
ceiling-beams exposed inside. Early C19 extension on south in flint and red
brick, mainly plastered externally and lined. Roof of black plaintiles with
alternating bands of fishscale tiles. Mid C19 wing on east: red brick, with
single Roman tiles. Lean-to timber-framed and plastered extensions on north
windows to front elevation mainly small-paned sashes, those in the C19 wing in
deep reveals, the remainder in flush frames. At north end, 3 small-paned sashes
are set into a rectangular bay with slate roof.
