Description

TL 97 NW FAKENHAM MAGNA THETFORD ROAD (EAST SIDE)

2/63 Walls & Gatepiers to
- Fakenham Hall

GV II

Gatepiers and boundary walls to garden. Part C17, part early C19. Red brick,
with ornamental details in stone. On each side of the drive is a squat square
gate pier in Tudor brick with a moulded base, surmounted by a stone ball
finial. A smaller pair of similar piers is separated from them by a short
stretch of low garden wall, with a further short stretch of wall beyond. The
brick of the wall is also of Tudor type. Small, flat-topped buttresses, and
plain cast iron railings along the top. Adjoining on the south is a 10-bay
stretch of high boundary wall, with return stretches of similar length to north
and south. The bay divisions are marked by pilasters of slightly projecting
brick. At the extreme east end of the northern return wall, a pier with finial
matching those by the drive.
