Description

TL 87 NE BARNHAM STATION ROAD
(OFF)

4/19 Carine Cottage
-
- II

House. Circa 1600. One-and-a-half storeys. Timber-framed and
rendered with C20 pantiles. Roof hipped on the south end, gabled
on the north, with a small single-storey lean-to. Internal
chimney-stack. Exterior completely modernised: C20 casement
windows and 2 sloping-headed dormers. 3 bays to frame, which
appears all of one date, without a chimney-bay. The present
stack intrudes into the 2 bays of the hall, which has exposed
beam and joists, all chamfered. An open fireplace with timber
lintel has surrounds of C18 brick. The remaining bay on the
south has ceiling joists of circa 1800, thin and set on edge,
apparently a replacement, unless this end of the house was
initially single-storey. There was probably an original chimney-
stack on the north gable.
