Listing Text

4/21 Nos. 9 & 10.
- II

A pair of cottages. Part C17, part early C19, with mid C20
modernisation. One storey and attics. Timber-framed and
rendered with thatched roof. 2 end chimney-stacks. Small-paned
casement windows. One large central eyebrow dormer with a pair
of 2-light casement windows, and 2 adjacent plank doors below it.
A C20 extension links both cottages to the formerly detached
backhouses, in brick and flint, at the rear: these now form part
of the living accommodation. The interior of No.9 has a typical
early C19 cottage form, with framing and ceiling joists exposed:
No.10 is older, with 2 separate bays of C17 framing, neither
complete in themselves, and indicating a single-storey cottage
originally, with an end chimney-stack and later inserted attic.
Extension and conversion to 2 cottages in early C19, but the
present symmetrical exterior is of more recent date
