House. C15 with mid C20 extensions at rear and west end. One-
and-a-half storeys. Timber-framed and rendered: hipped thatched
roof with decorated ridge. Internal chimney-stack with plain
rebuilt red brick shaft. C20 small-paned casement windows to
ground storey: 4 eyebrow dormers with 2-light diamond-leaded
panes, some old. A C20 enclosed and gabled porch in matching
materials. A 3-cell division of the medieval house, with 2
storied ends and a central open hall of one-and-a-half bays. The
lower half-bay of the hall, which contained the entry, has been
completely filled by a large inserted chimney-stack with 2 back-
to-back hearths. The tie-beam of the open truss has been cut
away, and a beam resting on the brickwork of the stack supports
the early C17 ceiling inserted into the hall: the exposed main
beam and joists have chamfers and scroll-stops. Diamond mullion
housings show the position of the long 6-light hall windows in
the remaining bay. At the eastern end of the house, the original
ceiling has rough, heavy joists, with evidence of a former
partition dividing the area into 2, and of a blocked stair trap.
Indications also of a blocked stair-trap at the west end. Rafter
roof: the rafters of coppice wood, with smoke-blackening
remaining.
