Description

TL 97 SE HEPWORTH THE STREET
(EAST SIDE)

3/14 Chestnut Cottage.

II

House. Early C17 and C18. Part 2 storeys, part one-and-a-half: set sideways-
on to road. Timber-framed and rendered with pantiled roof. An internal
chimney-stack with plain red brick shaft divides the higher and lower parts of
the building. 3-light casement windows with a single bar, and a gabled dormer
to each side of the eastern half. C20 door in a small lean-to extension on
the south side. The room to the west of the stack has an ovolo-moulded main
beam and joists set flat; reconstructed fireplace with timber lintel. On the
upper storey, evidence that the roof has been raised. To the east of the
stack, less substantial C18 ceiling-beams. Roof-timbers all covered, but this
eastern half seems likely to have an earlier core.
