Description

TL 97 SE HEPWORTH THE STREET
(EAST SIDE)

3/16 Butchers

GV II

House. Early C18. 2 storeys: lobby-entrance plan. Timber-framed and
rendered on a high plinth of brick and kidney flint. Black-glazed pantiled
roof. Internal chimney-stack with a plain rebuilt red brick shaft. Three 3-
light casement windows with cross-bars to each storey; C20 plank door. Frame
in 6 bays, including a chimney-bay: narrow, bisected studs and primary braces.
To the south of the stack, a 3-bay room, with no correlation between the main
posts and the main cross-beams of the ceiling, suggests a rearrangement of the
area, which may originally have had 2 rooms. Adjoining the house on the
south, a single-storey outbuilding in similar materials which formerly
contained a blacksmith's shop, and a continuation at right-angles, now a
butcher's shop.
