3/60 Grindle Cottage


House. C15, and later. One storey and attics: 3-cell plan. Timber-framed and
roughcast; thatched roof; internal chimney-stack with plain red brick shaft.
The north side has 3 C19 3-light casement windows with a single bar to lights,
and one very large inserted dormer, with a gabled, thatched roof and a 4-light
small-paned casement window. The south side has 2 plank doors in small rustic
wooden porches. The west gable wall is bricked to eaves level. The 2 main
posts of the central truss of the open hall remain, with the lower part of an
arched brace: the tie-beam above has been removed. The heavy main beam of the
inserted hall ceiling is supported by posts set to one side of the main posts
of the open truss. Other timbers covered.
