A group of 3 cottages. Late C16 and late C17. 2 storeys: L-shaped form.
Timber-framed and plastered with simple comb-patterned pargetting. Black
glazed pantiled roofs, hipped. C20 3-light and 2-light small-paned casement
windows and half-glazed doors; plank doors to side range. Nos 2 & 3, set
sideways-on to road, form the oldest part of the group, with a basic 2-cell
lobby-entrance plan: the internal chimney-stack has a plain shaft rebuilt in
white brick. Main ground storey beam to No.2 with ovolo-moulding and stop
with jewel and groove; in No.3, main beam with a 3" chamfer and run-off stops.
The roof of this range was raised in the early C19 to bring it in line with
the higher roof of No.1, which has good quality late C17 framing with primary
braces and bisected studs. Main ground-storey beam with chamfer and identical
stops to those in No.2. This type of C17 stop occurs frequently in Coney
Weston.
