C18 timber framed, brick faced in mid C19 with original wood bracket
cornice. 2 storey and attic, 2 pedimented dormers. Part of rear
still plaster faced with original mullion transom casements and leaded
lights. Brick plinth, pantiles. Rendered porch with radial bar fan-
light. Occupied by Edward Fitzgerald from 1853 to 1860. The name is
reputed to be a corruption of Farthing Cake Hall, from the fact that
It was built by a baker who made gilt gingerbread cakes sold at the
Fair of St Etheldreda on 23 October in the shape of figures of St
