Rendlesham

Gatehouse. Early C19. Flint rubble with ashlar quoins and stone
dressings. A mock Romanesque ruin built for Lord Rendlesham as a
gatehouse to Rendlesham Hall (see Rendlesham Parish). The stone
is alleged to have come from the ruins of Butley Abbey. Main
roof not visible: outshuts at rear have slate roofs.
Fenestration in the towers: sashes with glazing bars. The
openings have stilted arches and jambs in ashlar. The main
archway has a 2 pointed arch with 2 rows of moulding springing
from engaged columns with blocked capitals.
