4/12 The Old Rectory

Former rectory, now in institutional use. Circa 1840 with C18 core to rear.
White brick, slated roof. 2 storeys and attics. Symmetrical facade: 5
windows, with full-height 2-light curved bays each side of the entrance bay,
which is slightly inset; sash windows with glazing bars in flush frames, flat
brick arches; entrance porch with broad architrave, pilasters clasping the
angles, entablature and flat roof; half-glazed door. At attic level is a
range of C20 metal frame casement windows with plastered surrounds. The gable
ends have brick pilasters, the overhanging eaves returned to form a broken
pediment. Good mid C18 staircase (probably re-used from the earlier house)
with 2 twisted balusters per tread, heavy moulded handrail and carved ends to
the treads; panelled entrance hall. Attached to the rear is a range of
