Former rectory, now house. Late C18. Built for the Revd. Richard Frank
D.D. Red Flemish bond brick with plain tile roof. Two storeys. Entrance
front: 3 bays symmetrically disposed. Central tripartite Greek revival
doorway which has a central door of 6 panels, the lower 2 flush, the upper
4 raised and fielded, with a decorated fanlight above. To either side of
this are Doric 1/2-columns which are fluted and baseless and support a
correctly moulded entablature. Immediately to either side of these are
sash windows of 2x4 panes. To either side of this central feature are sash
windows of 3x4 panes with ashlar sills and flat-arched heads. To far left
is a further sash window of later date having 2x4 panes. To the first
floor are three windows with flat-arched heads and ashlar sills of 3x4
panes. Hipped roof above with recessed chimney stacks each of 3 flues. To
left of this and slightly recessed is a C19 service wing of 3 bays with
cambered heads to the windows. The Garden front is of 3 bays symmetrically
disposed. Central semi-octagonal bay window with central doorway formed of
an upper sash window of 3x4 panes and a lower 1/2-door. Similar sash windows
to the canted angles at ground floor level and 3 similar to the the first
floor of the bay which has a hipped roof above it. The lateral bays at
ground and first floor levels are also all of 3x4 sash panes, the first
floor windows being of less height. The right hand return has 4 bays with
sash windows of 3x4 panes to both floors. To the first floor at extreme
right is a further window of 2x4 panes. To right of this is a C19 lower 2-
storey service wing with outshut at left and cambered-headed windows. The
rear of the house has 2 central bays with sash windows of 3x4 panes to both
floors at either side of which are the projecting C19 service wings.
Blocked windows to either side at first floor level show that the front was
formerly of 4 bays symmetrically arranged.

Interior: The staircase hall has an open-well staircase of 2 flights with a
smaller flight between the 1/2-landings, moulded tread ends and stick
balusters with slender moulded vase-on-octagon newels and a wreathed
curtail to the handrail. Moulded tread-ends. Decorated cornice. From this
hall leads a spinal corridor with groin vaulting resting on wall brackets.
the drawing room has wall panels with moulded surrounds and a C20 ashlar
chimney piece with Tudor arch. Similar chimney piece and moulded cornice
and C18 chimney piece having fluted columns to either side with acanthus
leaf capitals. Cabled fluting to the shafts and moulded bases with a
fluted frieze and maidens with garlands to the lateral projecting panels of
the frieze.
