(East Side)
2/57 The Round House
Lodge. Early C19 with C20 additions. Rubble flint with white brick
dressings and thatched roof. Octagonal single storey plan with flat-roofed
rectangular addition to rear. Entrance face: gabled porch which has spur
walls which terminate in demi-Tuscan pillars on brick and flint plinths.
These support a pedimental gablet with white brick edging. The other faces
all have a central 2-light casement with pointed arch and Y-tracery having
quoins of white brick to their surrounds and at the corners of the
building. Conical thatched roof rising to a central octagonal chimney
shaft which is slightly flared towards its top. The C20 addition is
attached to the face of the octagon furthest from the road. It has
colourwashed, rendered walling and a felted roof.
