7/50 The Eight Bells
Public house. Early-mid C19 with C16-C17 wing to rear. White
brick to facade and right hand return front, red brick to
remainder, slated roof. 3 storeys. 3 window range, inset sashes
with glazing bars, flat brick arches; central doorway with C20 4-
panel door, the upper 2 panels glazed, narrow side lights, semi-
circular fanlight with glazing bars; heavy late C19 hood on
ornamental cast iron brackets (there was originally a portico).
To each side of the doorway are the iron letters 'S'and 'C' for
Samuel Clouting. Paired mutule cornice to eaves. A timber
framed and pantiled outbuilding to the rear renovated c.1980 and
incorporated into the main building.
