Description

TM 36 SW PARHAM SILVERLACE
GREEN

4/160 Barn at Parham
- Hall

- II

Barn. Early to mid C17. Timber framed and weatherboarded with
pantiled roof. 5 bays, with a cart entrance in the middle bay.
Wall framing has much re-used timber: substantial, no middle rail,
a pair of primary braces to each bay, bisected studs. The trusses
had long arched braces now replaced by bolted-on knees. An
exceptionally well-finished roof in 6 bays with a half-bay at each
end which shows signs of alterations or shortening during
construction. Butt purlins and clasped purlins: diminished
principal rafters. Mortice and peg-holes for missing windbraces,
which seem not to have been inserted.
