Description

TM 15 SE WITNESHAM THE STREET

1/49 The Cherries
-

- II

Farmhouse, C15 with alterations of C17 and, C19. A formerly-open hall house,
probably originally of 2 cells. 2 storeys. Timber-framed and rough-cast.
Pantiled roof with internal chimney of red brick. Early C20 casements and
half-glazed panelled entrance doors. The original crown-post roof over the
hall survives with moderate smoke encrustation; a central open truss has a
cross-quadrate crownpost with 4 solid braces. The hipped left-hand end is now
encased in the later gabled roof. Large central chimney and lst floor
inserted into open hall C16 or C17. A little timber-framing is exposed
internally. An outshut was added to rear in C19. Formerly known as Street
Farmhouse, this house probably included the adjacent Mill House (Item 1/50)
until C19.
