Description

TM 37 NE CHEDISTON HALESWORTH ROAD

3/15 Packway Farmhouse
-
- II

Farmhouse. In 2 parts: C16 or earlier to left; early C17 range to right, with
a short cross wing set slightly forward. Timber framed and plastered with
some colourwashed brick casing; pantiled roof. 2 storeys. Various casement
windows, mainly of C20. The later part has a lobby entrance with boarded door
and a heavy internal stack at the junction with the earlier range; the upper
part of the stack was rebuilt mid C20 incorporating terracotta fleurs-de-lys,
said to come from Chediston Hall. The cross wing has ovolo-moulded ceiling
beams on the ground floor, and on the first floor some good exposed framing;
one first floor room has a blocked fireplace with moulded arch and a good
original door in a heavy doorframe. The earlier part of the house appears to
be fragmentary.
