TM 27 SE CRATFIELD LAXFIELD ROAD

Barn. Probably later C16, with later additon to east. Timber framed, partly
clad in tarred weatherboards, partly plastered and tarred; roof clad in
corrugated iron, hipped over the east end. The original building has 3 bays
with a central entrance bay; it was extended to the east by the addition of
one narrower bay in C18-C19. The side walls of the original structure have
elbowed arched bracing at the corners; there is a middle rail to the surviving
gable end. One of the central trusses retains its original arched braces.
There is a modern floor over the 2 easternmost bays. The roof has clasped
purlins and arched wind bracing.
