Pair of almshouses, 1654, for Sir Robert Hitcham (will dated 1636). One of 2
identical parallel ranges about 7 metres apart, each range comprising a pair
of dwellings. Gable front, 1 storey and attics. Parapet gabled front wall of
red brick with tumbled-in brickwork at the parapets. Central in the gable is
a limestone plaque bearing the carved achievement of Sir Robert Hitcham. The
side walls are recessed and of rendered masonry, the rear gable is of red
brick. Plaintiled roof with C19 gabled casement dormers. Rear external
chimneys of red brick. C19 and C20 casements, some with small panes. C19
boarded entrance doors. A plaque on the side wall records reconditioning
works in 1961/62.
