Public house, probably C14. A rare example of an aisled hall house of modest
status; greatly altered from C15 onwards. One storey and attics; by C17
converted to a 3-cell house retaining the rear aisle only. Timber-framed and
rough-cast. Thatched roof with internal chimney of red brick; a C19 lead-clad
dormer with small-pane sash window. C19 sash windows. C19 entrance doors,
each with a pentice board on brackets. A central aisled open truss has empty
trenches for passing-braces, and dovetail housings for tie-beam braces on the
cambered tie-beam. The aisle at the front has gone, but the arcade-plate
remains with housings for lap-jointed arcade-braces. The closed truss to
right shows evidence for a further bay, open to the hall at ground level, but
with a loft supported on knees above; this, and the closed truss at the left-
hand gable, may be C15 renewals, but still of aisled form. The coupled-rafter
roof may be original, but extended C15 and C17/C18. The building is believed
to have been a pair of estate cottages until the C19, when it became a public
House called originally "The Musket".
