Water tower, c.1873. Supplying water for domestic use at Orwell Park. 4
stages, about 20 metres high. Red brick with dressings of limestone. The
base stage has banded rusticated brickwork, and at the corners angle
buttresses, each having a limestone urn finial. On each face of the 2nd stage
are paired blind windows with semicircular heads, and at the corners less
prominent angle buttresses with fleur-de-lys finials. The 3rd stage has
smaller paired windows and shallow clasping-buttresses. The 4th stage has a
large single window with balustruding beneath. The parapets have a moulded
and dentilled cornice, and open balustrading with obelisk finials on corner
piers:
