Farmhouse. C16. Timber framed with colourwashed render (which is dated on
a roundel on the front of the house T.C./1755) with a roof of machine-made
pantiles, formerly thatched. Two storeys. Entrance front: doorway at
right which has 4 lower panels and one upper glazed panel. C19 gabled
porch in front of this with lattice trellises to the sides. To right is a
2-light C20 casement and to left two 3-light C19 casements. The first
floor has two 3-light C19 casements. The front pargetting originally had
woolknot patterns now overlaid by later patching. Portion of brickwork at
left of centre, perhaps indicating a blocked doorway. Hipped roof with a
chimney stack at left of centre of 3 flues with decorative bands. The
right hand end has a 3-light C19 first floor casement. The left hand side
has one ground floor window. Rear: slightly to right of centre is a
projecting gabled wing which has C20 fenestration with a single-light
window at right and a cross window above. It may have been a staircase or
porch wing. To the left flank is C20 fenestration and at right a C19 lean-
to with brick walling, a plank door at left and a 3-light casement at
right. Chimney stack of 2 flues to the ridge. To left of the wing is a 3-
light C20 casement and at far left a ½-glazed C20 door. Blank walling at
first floor level.
Interior: Screens passage, the wooden screen having moulded muntins and no
cross rails. To the other side of the passage a large room shows beams
with mortice holes indicating two service rooms, although much of the
timber has been altered. The present hall has a chamfered bressumer with
end stops, central ceiling beam with shallow chamfers and die-out end
stops, jowled wall posts and close studding to the walls with wattle-and-
daub infill. Further close studding to the first floor rooms. Basked-
arched fireplace and blocked window to further rooms, jowled wall posts and
cambered ties, with arched braces.
