- Lychgate to Churchyard
G.V. II
Churchyard lychgate. Circa 1887. Timber framed with a knapped flint and
ashlar base and plaintile roof. Central square posts at either side with
x-shaped arrangement of braces which overlap them. Ties and collars to the
hipped roof and a pair of wooden gates attached to the central piers. The
plinth has an ashlar coping which bears incised inscriptions, that at west
reading: THIS LYCHGATE WAS ERECTED BY/THE PARISHIONERS AND THEIR FRIENDS.
And to the eastern face: AS A MEMORIAL OF THE JUBILEE/OF QUEEN VICTORIA.
