Public house, formerly house, possibly priest's house. C16. Timber framed
with colourwashed render and a plaintiled roof, probably originally
thatched. Two storeys. Entrance front: refaced in the C19. Doorway at
left of centre to left of which is a 4-light C19 casement and at right of
which are a 4-light and a 3-light casement. To the first floor are four 2-
light casements. To the ridge at right of centre is a single-flue stack
and at left of centre is a cross-axial stack of 2 flues and there is a
further 2-flue stack to the left hand gable end. Left hand gable end:
lean-to at right and left at either side of the stack which has offsets.
The walling behind this is timber framed with brick nogged infill and a
jowled corner post at left. Right hand gable end: C19 outshut at right
with a 2 light casement at left. One 3-light C19 or C20 casement to the
first floor. Hatch doorway to the attic. Rear: English bond brick walling
to the ground floor which is blank. Above an offset the walling is close
studded with ogee-arched braces and a decoratively carved sill plate and
nogged brick infill which has been colourwashed. Two-light window to near
centre and a sash window of 4 x 2 panes at far right, both inserted in old
window surrounds. Three further, blocked windows.
Interior: Chamfered ceiling beams to the bar areas with plain joists,
formerly two rooms, now opened up to form one. One further ground floor
room has chamfered and ogee end stopped joists. Raised ceilings to some
first floor rooms and jowled wall posts.
