10/314 The Club
Club house. Circa 1912 by Sir Aston Webb. Grey brick with red brick dressings and
plain tiled roof with quoined stacks to left and right of centre. Central range with
gable front end wings. Single storey with glazing bar sash windows in outer, gabled,
bays, in red brick quoined and pedimented surrounds. 4 casements to centre range.
Central paired part glazed doors with iron lantern over, behind a colonnade of 4
piers on dado walling across the front.
Whitetey Village was provided by William Whiteley of Whiteley's stores for thrifty
old folk and was laid out on an octagonal plan by Frank Atkinson, employing leading
architects of the day.
