The C18 house was completely remodelled in the early C19. Principal elevation
faces north-west, its setting above the river Frome now blocked by tall
trees. Good symmetrical facade in Greek Revival style (of the Hope variety).
Rendered and grooved and ashlar. Ashlar plinth, dressings and features.
Two storeys, facade divided into 3 units, end bays have applied Doric pilasters
to slight break. Two 2 storey bows in centre with deep recess between.
Pilasters carry continuous architrave, frieze, moulded cornice and plain
parapet with moulded coping. Glazing bar sashes. One tripartite sash
window on each floor of end units, except ground floor right which has
an angular bay. First floor windows in square recesses. Ground floor
windows have end pilasters and pilaster mullions supporting frieze and
cornice. The 2 bows are segmental in plan with crowning entablature and
parapet, moulded architraves to windows, plain cill band to first floor.
Central door and window above are set in recess. Door flanked by Ionic
columns capped by entablature and balustered parapet forming 1st floor
balcony. Panelled door, arched fanlight. Left hand return elevation
has coped parapet, irregular windows, 4 on 1st floor, 3 on ground floor,
sashes in reveals, and arched doorway to right with open pediment on brackets
and panelled door with traceried fanlight. Fluted lead rainwater head
to left. Contiguous coach house wing of lower height to left with coping
ramped to high level; elliptical-headed entrance with keystone and double
doors.
South front has 3 bay break with frieze, cornice and parapet returned,
and flanking ashlar pilasters, glazing bar sashes in moulded architraves.
Interior: horseshoe plan stair with wrought and cast iron balusters.
