7/138 Stockenden


House. C15 with C16 and early C17 extensions. Timber framed on rubblestone
plinth, brick infill to entrance front, tile hung above , galleted stone to rear,
tile hung above; plain tiled roofs with ridge stack to end of left hand wing
and impressive C17 diagonally placed end stacks to main range. L shaped, original
C15 hall house to left in wing, main range to right.
Entrance front: 2 storeys, brick dentil band over ground floor of wing projecting
to left, 2 casement windows first floor right. 1 leaded casement to left. 6
panel door to right of re-entrant angle under fanlight with intersecting tracery.
Flat porch hood above on dentilled brackets with fluted pilaster strips below.
Rear: former entrance front. 3 storeys and basement with attic to left under
gabled C20 dormer. 1 casement window to left on second floor, 3 casements
(1 leaded) on first floor. 4 casements across ground floor, one to right in blocked
former entrance under Tudor stone arch dated "AN DO.1604".

Interior: open fireplace with moulded and embattled chimney beam. In room above
against west wall - large truss with tie bear and octagonalcrown post, One brace
to tie beam survives, the other replaced by C16 doorway.
