The description shall be amended to read:
House, now divided. c.1835, 1880s extensions and extensive C20 restoration,
and top floor rebuilt following fire in 1957. Whitewashed render with hipped
slate roofs largely obscured by parapets. 2 storeys and mezzanine with plat
band over ground floor, cornice over first floor. 3 bays entrance front, with
C20 glazing bar sash window to left in mezzanine, C20 casements to centre and
right. Glazing bar sash windows in architrave surrounds with panel and apron
behind in first floor outer bays. Casement doors, with flanking casement
windows, under flat hood to centre of first floor. C20 casements in outer bays
of ground floor with raised architrave surrounds and flat hoods over. Central
closed 3 bay portico with fluted Doric pilasters and casement window infull
under flat hoods; flanking central pedimented and bracketed door, cast iron
railing to balcony above. Left hand return front: 3 bays to right, 4 bay
recessed centre and 2 bays to left. 2 storeys and mezzanine, plat bands over
ground floor, cornice over first floor. Central entrance with further entrance
to left. Garden front of 6 bay, 3:3 the right hand recessed with glazed
verandah. French doors to ground floor. 12 pane sashes in architraves to first
floor, modern windows in attic. Courtyard with later extensions. Interior:
Largely altered but open-well stair remains with cast iron balustrade and
mahogony rail. tiled floor to hall. History: The building appears to have
been begun by Joseph Wilkes but it is recorded as unfinished when sold to the
Pepys family of Tandridge Court in 1834. It was first let in 1840.
