TW 04 NW SHALFORD CP CHINTHURST LANE

4/145 Chinthurst Hill Lodge

GV II

Lodge. 1897 by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Sandstone rubble below with pebbledash
above, hipped plain tiled roof with gablet to right. Two storeys, tall
end stacks, diagonal, with corbelled tops to left and end stack to right.
Built into hillside. Square bay to right, ground floor recessed to left
with first floor supported on braced tapering post to left corner, moulded
lintle beam to ground floor. Leaded fenestration of two casements in
stone surrounds with stone mullions to first floor. Two ground floor
windows, one in square bay under tile-on-edge course over ground floor.
Door to ground floor left. Hipped roof range to rear.

Chinthurst Hill House was an early Lutyen's work and placed in a terraced
garden laid out by Gertrude Jekyll.
