5/363 Barn at Cotterells Farm

GV II

Barn. Early C17 extended in C18. Oak timber framed barn clad in
weatherboarding with Bargate stone gable to street. Half hipped roof
covered in clay peg tiles. The original barn was of 5 unequal bays with
cart entrances to the yard and stackyard. Half-hipped roof with
diminishing principal rafters, pegged straight wind braces and
originally vertical queen posts now gone. Heavy tie beams and collar
arching braces to large cut jowled posts. In the C18 or early C19 2
bays were added to extend the barn up to the wall with straight posts,
arched braces, plain principal rafters and C20 inserted floor
ridgepiece. Attached to north is a smaller barn on ragstone plinth. 4
bays with mid rail, same jowled posts, through purlins and angled open
struts.
