3/91 Coal Tax post 280 yards
north of west end at
NGR TQ 22325709

Coal and Wine tax post. Circa 1861. Made by Henry Grissell. Metal. circa 4 1/2
foot high. Four legged plinth with chamfered pier above. Moulded capital band and
pyramidal top. City of London shield on the front. Lettering on the pier reads
"24 & 25 VICT/CAP 42". Makers name to rear. A Coal and Wine tax post indicating
the boundary at which duty was payable; that on coal dating back to the 1660's.
