House. Late C18 extended to rear in C19. Whitewashed brick with rendered angle
quoins and wooden modillion eaves cornice, hipped plain-tiled roof. Two storeys
and attic on plinth with rear stacks to right and left. Plat band over ground
floor and plat band over first floor. Five bays wide with 6 pane glazing-bar
sash windows in attic storey, five 12-pane glazing bar sashes to first floor and
four to ground floor, all under painted gauged brick heads. Central half-glazed
door in Doric pilaster/pier portico with triangular pediment above with modillions
and pulvinated frieze. Three bay C19 extension to right. Single storey tile hung
and brick extensions to rear with slate roofs and corbelled stacks not of special
interest. Left hand return front - round headed windows on ground and first floors
and large bay of three windows to west.
Interior - good staircase.
Home of Sir Samuel Romilly, Law Reformer for some years until his death in 1818.
