6/26 The Old House

House. C16 core with early C18 front, later C18 and C19 extensions to right and
later C19/early C20 extensions set back to left. Timber framed core, front of
red and blue brick with hipped,slate roof over deep eaves. Brown brick
extensions on right hand return front, brick and tile hung to left. Three
storeys to front with large, corbelled stack to left end and multiple square
stacks to right of centre. Plinth, with plat bands over ground and first floors,
first floor of unusually tall proportions. 10 bay front with shallow 12-pane,
early C18, original, glazing-bar sash windows under gauged brick heads on the
second floor, the left hand window now blocked. Nine tall, 8-pane sashes across
the first floor under gauged brick heads, one smaller 6-pane window to right.
Nine similar sash windows on ground floor, four to the right and five to the
left of the main door; the window immediately to the right of the door partially
blocked. Panelled door under fanlight and in round arched, keystoned surround.
Wing at right angles to rear and wing set back to left of T-shaped plan with tile
hung gable under ridge stack. One 2-light casement under drip course in gable,
"Venetian" window below. Right hand return front - five bays of C18 cladding
to left with tripartite ground floor sash window. Half-glazed door under
fanlight and Doric portico. Two later C18 glazing bar sash windows to right with
"Venetian" window below. Angle bay on rear.
