11/86 Taylors

Hall house. C14 hall, developed into larger hall in C15, floored in C16 and altered
in C17 and C19. Timber framed, clad in 'Club' tile hanging on brick and render
plinth; Horsham slab roof. T-shaped plan with two bay hall, cross wing to left
projecting. Offset C17 and C19 diagonal stacks to ends, inserted stack to right of
centre. Two storeys in left gable range; single storey and attic to centre/right
under gabled dormer; two storeys and attics to right end with attic gable jettied
on carved and scrolled brackets. Diamond-pane,leaded casement fenestration with one
window to first floor left of six small square lights over two lower, rectangular,
lights. Two,2-light windows to first floor left of centre, one 6-light ground floor
window to right of centre. One 3-light window on each floor to right. Door to left
of centre in angle with wing, to cross passage, under hipped,Horsham slab hood on
brick piers. Right hand return front:- gabled oven attached to rear of side stack.
Left hand return front:- galleted sandstone block with brick dressings on ground
floor, flying buttress support for stack. Rear:- arched braces on corner post.
Single storey extensions at right angles and gabled stair vice to rear left.
Interior:- details suggest early hall (in left gable) developed in C15/C16 into
larger 2 bay hall, possibly with solar to right. Smoked gablets and crown-post
roof survive. Large C16 fireplace, old oak floorboards on first floor. Panelled
wall and old staircase. Chamfered ceiling and substantial framing exposed.
