(West Side)
10/241 The Tuns

House. Early C18. Timber framed on brick plinth with painted weatherboard
cladding, hipped plain tiled roofs. Double pile plan. Two storeys and attics
under two segmental head dormers with lead coverings. Fanlights over windows
and glazed 'cheeks'. End stack to left, rear end stacks to right. Modillion
eaves cornice. Three 12-pane, glazing bar sash windows, glazing-bars intact,
on the first floor, two later C18 glazing bar sash windows on the grqund floor,
all in architrave surrounds. Central door of 6 panels, top two glazed, in
architrave surround, under modillioned pediment with pulvinated frieze. One
window range to left, parallel range to rear with casement fenestration and
basement storey as it is built on a sloping site. Reputedly the house was a
former Coaching Inn.
