Balustrade enclosing forecourt
in front of south front
of Ashtead Park House


Forecourt balustrade. Probably later C19. Portland stone ashlar. The balustrade
encloses an area approx. 60 metres wide and 30 metres deep, with concave outer
corners, and an entrance in that at the south west corner. The balustrade has
vase balusters divided in to short sections by low rectangular piers, and the
entrance has low gate piers with vermiculated panels and moulded cornices, and
these and some of the other piers carry large urns.
