Walls and Balustrades to
Terraced garden on north side
of Ashtead Park House

GV II

Terraced garden on north side of house. Probably late C19. Portland stone. The
garden is approx. 80 metres wide and 60 metres deep in the centre, and is
divided into upper and lower parts, the upper rectangular and carried round the
east end of the house, and the lower with a very large semicircular bow in the
centre. The upper terrace has a retaining wall of rock-faced pulvinated courses,
with a moulded coping and a balustrade of vase balusters with square piers at
regular intervals, with urns on those flanking a wide flight of steps in the
centre; the lower terrace is in similar style, with corner urns, and the bow
encloses a large quatrefoiled flower bed with cavetto surround.
