Denne monument in angle of north
transept and north aisle of
Church of St Mary and St Nicholas

GV II

Tomb chest. Late C18. Commemorates William Denne Esq. (d. 1786), "Banker in
London". Limestone. It is mounted on a rectangular base of 2 steps, the lower
with the stumps of former railings and the upper with continuous nosing, and has
a moulded plinth, pilaster strips with horizontal fluting, raised oval side and end
panels with fan spandrels, and a lid with a moulded edge; the panel on the north
side has an inscribed epitaph, and that at the west end has a carved shield with
a stag couchant above.
