Street front circa 1840 to upper part, with modern alterations (1931) on ground
floor. 3 storeys. Upper part yellow stock brick on ground floor of shop windows
and yard entry framed in plain stone. String at 2nd floor level. Heavy boxed
cornice on brackets. Slate roof. 7-bay front, the 5 central bays with slight
projection. 7 windows on 2nd floor. 5 tall 4-light casements on 1st floor,
all with splayed surrounds, and recessed panels over and flanked by outer
3-light windows. Glazing bars intact. The yard entry leads to a large court
with irregular red brick blocks grouped round it. The former stables form part
of the group and all have been altered in recent years to form part of the
hotel. To the right hand behind yard entry, a low 2-storey, 1-bay block; on
ground floor a narrow C19 splayed oriel bay window with glazing bars flanked
by a door to either side. Projecting forward to left hand of this, with hipped
slate roof, a block with 2 windows on ground floor, one to north curved on
corner. Along south-west side of courtyard, south-west range has 5 windows
above, modern glazing below; centre doorway. South-east range facing on to
courtyard has one 3-light sash window above; sash windows below; portico projecting
forward in left hand corner. In north-east range, one portion of 3 window
bays with tile nipped roof, and another portion of 4 window bays with tile
gabled roof.
Garden front of south-east range: 2 storeys, 10 window bays. Red brick front.
Tile roof. Sash windows 3 panes wide above except for small window over entrance.
On ground floor, sash windows and 3 French casements. In 5th bay from left
hand (south west) and, t flush-panelled-door with fluted impost band. 3-light
segmental headed fanlight; wide segmental hood supported on low columns.
Projecting forward at right hand, north-east end, of this range, a 2-storey
5-bay block with higher frontage (modern reconstruction: 1930s). Incorporates
one of the former chimneys of the old bank building by Norman Shaw.

The Borough front of the Bush Hotel and Nos 29 to 44 (consec) form a group.
