Nos 47 and 48
SU 8347 SE 1/28 26.4.50.


Late C18 front to earlier timber-framed core. 2 storey and attic. Brick
on stucco plinth. String at 1st floor level. Brick dentilled eaves. Old
tile roof. Massive square central chimney with double offset head, 2 dormers,
small sashes.
No 47 has 2 3-light windows on 1st floor, one 3-light window with red rubbed
arch on ground floor and late C18 half-glazed door. 9 panes and flush bottom
panels, under flat hood on cut brackets, to left hand.
No 48 has one similar window on each floor and 5-panel door in right hand
corner with half-moon shaped glazed top panel, in architrave surround and
with open moulded pediment hood on cut scroll brackets, bed mould carried
round. Brass scroll pattern knocker.

All the listed buildings in Castle Street (East Side) form a group.
