Pair of cottages. C16 or C17, much altered late C19 and C20. Originally
timber-framed, now roughcast brick with tile-hung gables. Plain tile roof.
1 storey with attic. 4 bays. Windows C19 and C20 with leaded lights. Plinth,
partly of stone. No 139, on left, has board door with side-light to right bay,
and 3-light window to left. No 141 has late-C20, central, small-pane glazed
porch with half-glazed doors and hipped tile roof; bay window to right with
similar roof; 3-light window to left. Continuous, tiled, pentice to ground
floor, the walling above with applied timber framing. Four gabled dormers with
2-light windows, tile-hung cheeks and gable, and bargeboards. Slate-roofed
extension on right side, and late-C20 single-storey addition set back on left
are not of special interest. Rear: one bay of timber framing exposed at rear of
no.141, having old brick infill, the rail and wall plate continuing across rear
of no.139. Interior: party wall between nos.139 and 141 possibly timber
framed. Some Cl9 ledged doors with long hinges inside no.139, which also has 2
old rafters in roof. Formerly estate cottages on the Losely Estate. Included
for group value.
