House, now 2 offices. C17, probably early-mid, altered. Timber frame with lath
and plaster infill; rendered ground floor; plain tile roof. 2 storeys with
attic, 3 bays. Two panelled doorways, that on left (to No 1A) of 5 panels below
fanlight with radial glazing bars in pilastered architrave; that on right (to No
1) having reeded panels and doorcase with attached columns to jambs and lintel
and fielded panels to top corners. Between doors are 2 shallow canted bay
windows, their lower panes of plain glass, their upper panes with small-pane
glazing; sash window to far left. First floor jettied on large corbels having
moulded bressummer and decorative framing forming circles broken by posts and
rails; to left of centre, similarly-decorated restored oriel having transomed
3-light window to front, 1-light windows to returns and gable with decorative
bargeboards; a transomed, leaded, 3-light window to either side. 2-light gabled
attic dormer to left with brick stack on left in front roof pitch. Rear: later
(probably C18) wing on left of brick-infilled studding with tile-hung gable. To
its right, large external chimney of rubblestone and brick with offset at base
of the truncated stack. A hipped-roofed attic dormer to its right. Interior:
right bay on ground floor has chamfered spine-beam with long lambs tongue
chamfer. On first floor, elaborate rear-wall fireplace and C18 2-panel doors.
In roof, high-collared principal rafter roof trusses; queen-post truss at right
end; 2 tiers of butt purlins; old, pegged, rafters.
