Public House. Probably early C18 with early Cl9 addition; altered C19 and C20. Painted
brick in Flemish bond with some Bargate rubblestone and tile-hanging; addition
of brick in Flemish bond, pebbledashed at front md side. Plain tile roofs.
Main range of 2 storeys with attic and cellar, 3 bays, with lower wing added
on left and projecting slightly. Main range: central 6-panel door with hood on
twisted iron brackets; flanking windows have flat brick arches, those above
segmental brick arches, all with 16-pane sashes in reveals; moulded platband;
gabled dormer to left; roof hipped on left. Wing has a segment-arched 4-pane
sash to left; tripartite lst-floor window with 12-pane sash flanked by 4-pane
sashes; stepped dentilled eaves; roof hipped on left with stacks at front and
rear. Rear: main range of rubblestone with organgey-red brick quoins and
surrounds to the 3 narrow lst-floor windows, outer windows blocked, central one
with 8-pane sash, 2 old stacks at eaves. Right return (main range): some
rubblestone at rear, otherwise mid-late C20 brick the gable tile-hung with
decorative bands of fish-scale tiles and 2-light window. Left return
(addition): early C20 single-storey addition with cornice and parapet; on 1st
floor a tripartite window having 8-pane window flanked by 2-pane sashes all in
flush wood architrave; iron sign bracket on right; stepped dentilled eaves.
Interior: not fully inspected but said to have wide floorboards and oak
panelling, now covered, on 1st floor, and old roof timbers.
