Description

GODALMING MEADROW
SU 9844
(east side)
3/164
Wall to front of The
Almshouses, Wyatt's Close
GV II

Wall. 1622 for Richard Wyatt, as almshouses (qv). Orange-red brick in English
bond. Wide; approximately 1½ metres tall having triangular-section coping with
cogged course below and flat brick course above. The wall runs parallel with
the almshouse range. It is broken in the centre by a gateway with later,
stone-capped piers. At either end of the wall are square-section piers and in
line with the ends of the almshouse range short lengths of wall return towards
this formerly concealing privies (now gone) in the angle so formed. Other walls
in the vicinity in the same style are C20 and not of special interest.
