This obelisk was erected by John Fuller ("Mad Jack") of Brightling Park, then
called Rose Hill, in the early C19 on one of the highest spots in East Sussex,
hence it is visible for miles around. It was probably designed by Sir Robert
Smirke who erected other buildings in the parish for Fuller at the same time.
The Needle is of coursed stone and is built in four sections with a stringcourse
over each.
