16.3.70 Remains of the Town Walls
behind Nos 11-16, (incl.).

GV II

Remains of town walls. Foundations possibly of pre-Conquest date, with
C13 & C14 town walls above. These in turn in part surmounted by C18 &
C19 garden walls. Rubble stone with flint facing and lacing courses of
red brick, the portions above ground to the south heavily rebuilt.
The walls carry on along the north side of Southover Road, (q.v.).
On the south-west corner of the walls rests the Gazebo in the garden of
Nos 15 & 16, (The Caprons).
