The Martello Tower

Not inhabited. Built in 1806 as a coastal defence. Circular tower of red
brick with walls 5 and a half to 6 ft thick, originally coated with cement.
In the centre of the inside is a brick pillar with vaulted arches springing
from it. On the ground floor was a magazine with no entrance from the outside.
Above were quarters for the garrison divided into 2 rooms with 2 round-headed
window and the only entrance 20 ft above ground level. A small modern concrete
pill-box has been added to the roof in the last war.
